About
In recent years, Hong Kong has introduced Purple Trumpet as both a street tree and an ornamental plant. During its flowering period, the tree's canopy is dominated by deep violet and bright red hues from its dense flowers, which fall to create a stunning purple carpet on the ground. The natural habitat of Purple Tabebuia is in seasonal, dry, deciduous or semi-deciduous forests, hence its high drought resistance. When blooming, you can observe changes in colour in the throat of its flowers, which start off bright yellow to signal nectar-seeking insects that food is available. Later, the colours shifts to purplish-red, similar to the corolla, indicating that the nectar has run out.
