About
Widely cultivated across Hong Kong, Big-leaved Acacia is a common tree in urban areas and country parks. It is often used as a windbreak and firebreak because of its rapid growth rate, low soil condition requirements and resistance to wind and fire. Its root nodules contain nitrogen-fixing bacteria that enhance nitrogen cycling, improving soil fertility. Studies have shown that integrating these trees into Eucalyptus plantations can reduce the need for chemical fertilisers.
