About

This tree's Chinese name, Droop-leaf Fig, refers to its drooping branchlets rather than its leaves, which only appear to droop because of the branchlets. Conversely, its English name, Weeping Fig, is more accurate, describing the appearance of the hanging branchlets and greyish-white bark. A common street tree, Weeping Fig provides shade for pedestrians. Its cultivar, Variegated Weeping Fig, is also commonly seen in Hong Kong and is identifiable by the yellowish-white patches on the edge of its leaves.
